Outcome B

OLM 580- Leadership Project Management Strategy

The Project Management class was the most challenging class for me out of all.  I did not have a good experience with the instructor and the work was more intense than any other class because it was group oriented.  We had the opportunity to select our own group.  Prior to selecting our group, I had not worked with any of the other ladies except Marlena.  While the class taught us the ins and outs of project management and gave you hands on experience with being a project manager; the most valuable insight I gained was how to effectively work within a group.  Our group was the awesome, Grad Team Divas which consisted of Renee Martin who served as the Lead, Bessie, Marlena and myself.  I felt that everyone else had way more skills and expertise with this type of work; but, reality was most of us were new to it.  I was intimidated by many of the terms, charts, etc. but my team members helped me through it.

As an Event Planner, I have managed many projects, but this was different.  I honestly felt lost at first and the instructor was not very good with explaining concepts.  I learned how to trust my teammates and that for once, I didn't have to know everything.   Collectively we used our knowledge and strengths to make this project successful.  Renee introduced me to various software tools that I had never used before.  She showed us how to collaborate on a document using One Drive and how we could use Skype to communicate while we were editing the document.  In my various leadership positions, I have always been the lead person.  I never learned to delegate and often times had an issue with letting go and trusting others.  This course showed me how liberating delegating can be and how much we can learn from other people.  I have since taken many of the things I've learned in this course and began implementing them in my current leadership roles.  Our final project, the Oasis Family Spa exciting and a project I would be interested in seeing become reality.  I loved my Grad Team Divas and not only did the class provide me with awesome project management skills, but it has enhanced relationships with my classmates who I now call my friends.
