OLM 511 - System Dynamics and Change
This course really really blessed me in a personal way. Professor Winner was superb this course was the beginning of a major change in me. That change has made a difference in my outlook on myself as a person, a leader and it helped transform my thinking as an employee. This was the only class that caused me to literally cry in one of our on-campus sessions. Prior to this course, I always thought I embraced change and that so many others around me, resisted it. What resonated with me the most was completing my own Immunity Map. I was so surprised at some of the things I discovered. Once again, I was forced to do some self- reflection.
Completing the immunity map was somewhat easy for the first two columns which were identifying the behavior goals/visible commitments and identifying what I was doing or not doing. What brought me to tears was column three, hidden/competing commitments. I realized that I learning to delegate was an issue for me. I continued to take on a lot of responsibility and became overwhelmed because of my hidden commitment which was that I failed to trust people that were working with me. I realized that being an effective leader doesn't mean that I have to do it all myself. I came to understand that until I learned to change me, things for me at work and at home would never change. I also learned how I can use these same tools when working with or supervising others. Once this program is over, I look forward to going back and re-reading some of the chapters in the textbook for this course as I am sure I will need a refresher and use it often as a resource in my daily activities as a leader.
