This course was very intimidating and complex.  It was intimidating because when I heard the word Finance, I almost died because Math was the one subject I wanted to avoid because it is my weakest area.   I had never taken a finance class or any business classes as an undergraduate.  Some of the concepts were familiar to me because I own businesses but I did not fully comprehend what the reports were and why they were necessary.  The information I took away from this class have helped me understand where I have gone wrong financially in my own businesses and it will help me have a better understanding of the finances surround projects to which I may be assigned in the future.  I don't have to know everything about the financial side but at least I know have an understanding of various financial tools and assessments used in organizations.  I will leave the accounting details to the experts but the knowledge I have obtained will enable me to keep others from taking advantage of me.  No one else should ever know or understand your business better than you.  One of the key statements made in the textbook for this class was to "think like an owner" (Harvard Business Review Guide to Finance Basics for Managers, 2012 p.37).  Instead of just looking at your role and what you are responsible for, we need to look at things like an owner and see the big picture of how every piece fits to complete the puzzle.
